Hello There!

May 26, 2017

Hi there!

My name is Katie and thanks for visiting my blog, Reply with Style.  I’m a Southern girl who loves New England and the original version across the pond. I look forward to creating content that you enjoy and hope you will feel like you’re reading a coffee table book written by one of your best friends. So let’s get to it!

What you can expect:

My goal for this blog is to encourage women of all ages to add a little style to their everyday lives. I will be sharing plenty of outfit posts, but also items I am using, interesting articles, and bringing you along for all of my travel adventures.

My style is classic, with a slight modern edge. You’ll see lots of stripes, lots of dresses, and the occasional silly face because I have a hard time taking myself too seriously.

What I am wearing:

For my first post, I wanted to go with a look that spoke to my sense of style and could be worn in any season. Doesn’t get any more classic then a navy blazer with stripes? I bought my blazer on eBay because my size was backordered from J.Crew and I needed it for an interview. It is available in limited sizes now, but the Factory version is available in all sizes.

This is one of my favorite stripe tees. I have 16 at last count.

These Lucky Brand jeans are a gift from the denim gods. They are the perfect fit for when you don’t want to wear skinny jeans, but want to have a nice silhouette. I’ve been wearing them for 3 years, and couldn’t give them a higher recommendation.

This Louis Vuitton Speedy 30 is vintage, and by “vintage” I mean my mom’s. I am blessed to have a mother who has excellent taste, and doesn’t mind sharing. She bought this purse before she had her first child, almost 30 years ago. I love the rich patina on the leather! The Speedy has been a staple since it was introduced in the 1930s. How awesome is this photograph of Audrey Hepburn traveling with hers? If it’s good enough for my mom and Audrey, it’s good enough for me.

And the Cole Haan loafers were a recent addition to my wardrobe after I saw them featured on one of my favorite blogs, Audrey à la mode. They are amazingly comfortable, and a style you can wear for years. I like how they bring a slight “borrowed from the boys” element to an outfit.

Ray-Ban Wayfarers  (my go to) finish it off.  There are several Wayfarer options out there, but I prefer the following style. I first learned about these when the Duchess of Cambridge stowed them in her hip pocket while sailing. Sunglasses that fit in your hip pocket? Sign me up!

When it comes to jewelry, I keep my go-to items in a small jewelry box on my nightstand. This combination of classic pieces in gold and silver go with everything. Most of my earrings are simple post, like these pearls, and I almost never leave home without my two bracelets. My classic Seiko watch has served me well for the last seven years, but one day I hope to upgrade to a Cartier Tank. A girl can dream, right? The other items I always wear are my two rings and locket. The silver ring on my right hand used to be my mother’s, and has her initials engraved on it. The locket belonged to my grandmother and her initials are engraved on the front with pictures of her and my grandfather inside. Can you tell the women in my family like monograms? My mother and grandmother are both very special to me, and I love having something of theirs with me daily.

Random facts about me:

I once beat a U.S. senator in a foot race.

If I had to give up chocolate or cheese, I would give up chocolate. I can’t live without cheese.

I am a huge hockey fan,  which is unusual for a Southerner.

I don’t follow football. I just can’t get into it.

I once took a selfie with a Hasan Minaj, and it made The Daily Show.

I love old movies. Being a host on Turner classic movies would be a dream job.

Favorite movies: Chariots of Fire, Roman Holiday, The Longest Day, Rear Window, Dial M for Murder, My Fair Lady and The Sound of Music.

Favorite TV shows: The West Wing, White Collar and The Dick Van Dyke Show.

The women in my family are many, they are strong, and they are close.

Both of my grandfathers were amateur architects, who designed and built their own homes.
