Question: am I the only millennial that still follows the rule of only wearing white from Memorial Day to Labor Day? For as long as I can remember my Southern mother and grandmother have instilled in me that white pants, skirts, dresses, shoes and purses are for the summer days between Memorial Day and Labor Day. The main thing I remember about this rule is wearing black patent leather Mary Janes with my Easter dress as a little girl, instead of the white shoes with a little heel and bow most of the other girls at church wore. This rule applies to the men in our family too. You knew it was officially summer when Dad began wearing his seersucker suit and white bucks every Friday. If you haven’t guessed yet, my family is big on tradition.
Is it old fashioned? Sure. Do I follow it? You better believe it! All Southern girls know that Mama and Nana’s rules are to be followed if you want to be a lady and be accepted into the Junior League one day. So now that Memorial Day has passed I am going to be wearing all of the white I own, and pairing it with blue 80% of the time.
I found my white jeans on sale at Old Navy for $16 last summer. While I have certainly gotten my money’s worth out of them, they tend to gap at the waistband so I will be looking for another pair. I will keep you posted when I find the perfect pair.
I ordered this gingham off the shoulder top in two colors the day it was released. I love the color, the cut and that it can be worn two ways.
I also took a step out of my comfort zone with these earrings, and I am so glad I did! They add a nice pop to the outfit, but are still blue so it isn’t too out of character for me.
But now the question is which way to wear the top?
Off the shoulder or on the shoulder?
I will probably end up wearing it both ways. A note on sizing, I had to exchange my 2 regular for a 2 tall. I found that I needed extra material to fully cover my 5′ 9″ frame. If you are on the tall side, or don’t like flashing your midsection to the world, I would recommend ordering a tall.
