Happy Friday everyone! How are we already 3 weeks into the New Year? Seems like this year is already going by quickly. Today I wanted to share with you my favorite items from 2017. Some were items I purchased, and some were lovely gifts (my mother is an epic gift giver) I was fortunate enough to receive.First up are two items I received around Christmas. This Barefoot Dreams cardigan is a-maz-ing! I bought one in black for my mom as a Christmas present and liked it so much I ordered one for myself in silver. I never take it off when I’m home. As soon as I get home, I slip into my new uniform of leggings, tee, and Barefoot Dreams cardigan. Imagine being able to wear your favorite blanket and not look like a monk. That is what this cardigan is like. After admiring Krista Roberts from Covering Bases monogram necklace for a long time, my parents surprised me with one for Christmas. I have not taken it off since Christmas morning for two very good reasons: 1) I love it, 2) the chain and clasp are very thin which makes taking it off slightly difficult.I featured this Tumi backpack in my traveler gift guide and it makes the cut here too. My professional life was contained in this backpack for 6 months last year. The laptop sleeve in the back kept my laptop safe and the organizer panel in the front kept the items I would normally have in a purse in order. I had never relied on a backpack as a professional bag before, but absolutely loved this one! It has a nice tapered shape. I hope to take it with me to Europe…one day.
Pants are one of the hardest things for me to find. If you want to torture me, withhold carbs or make me try on pants for two hours. So obviously when I find a pair that fit perfectly, I buy multiples. These Hampshire pants from Talbots are fantastic! I bought bright pink (which will be on the blog soon) and navy. Now that they are on sale for under $40, I plan to get a pair in black. I like the classic cut that is great for the office, but comfortable to wear outside of work as well. I also like the pockets. You can never go wrong with pockets!
Next up is an item I loved so much I did a post about it, and another styling it three ways. I LOVE this shirt from Banana Republic. It has become my go-to for a comfy/casual look. I wore it recently with black skinnies and a denim jacket. As I shared in my other post, I have been in the market for a boyfriend shirt, since I figured that would be easier than getting a boyfriend to borrow one from. After trying multiple shirts from many different retailers, I went to BR and the wonderful sales associate suggested I try a shirt from the men’s department. The fit is great and the material is extremely soft. Highly recommend!
Up next is the first Patagonia I jacket I have ever owned, which quickly became my go-to jacket. Normally I wear a down vest in the winter, but having this jacket was a nice addition to my cold weather gear. Winters are mild here in the South, but I also took this on our family’s trip to Maine over Thanksgiving. Even in the 20-degree temps, this jacket and a hat were all I needed. Lightweight, warm and packable. What more could you ask for? Mine is smolder blue, but I also love the feather grey and magenta colors.
Two of my final three favorites are classic designer pieces that will stay in my wardrobe for at least 10 years, and the shoes could last for 20 with proper care. First are these classic quilted ballet flats from Chanel. These were one of the two items I purchased on my birthday trip to New York City. I took them to a cobbler in Atlanta to have rubber put on the soles, heel protectors and had the leather treated to protect them from scuffing. This will help them last for years. Chanel flats cannot be purchased new online, but there are many resale sites out there. I purchased mine from Bergdorf Goodman because they had a wide selection and shipping them to GA saved me sales tax. Highly recommend shopping with them.
This summer I spent a week with friends on an island in New England and finally bought some tinted moisturizer. I wanted to have something to even out my complexion and give me SPF protection. This CC cream from Clinique was perfect. It is lightweight and gave me the coverage I wanted. I have two shades, light and very light. I have used the light to almost completely replace my foundation, and use the light when I want a barefaced look.
The final item is the Gucci disco bag. Wearing this with my Chanel flats was one of my favorite combinations last year. You would be surprised how much I can fit in this small bag. A wallet, iPhone, lipstick, headset, charging cord, Purell, and a granola bar. Not bad, uh?
I hope you have a great week and stay warm!
