Hi everyone! Today is the first post in a new series about those classic pieces that I consider a “wardrobe staple”. These are the pieces that you can reach for time and time again and last for years regardless of the trends of the day. Today we will be talking about the camel coat.
Camel coats are a great alternative to the ubiquitous black coats on the street every winter. Equally as versatile, but a nice change of pace, investing in a camel coat is definitely something to consider.
There are many great options on the market. For years I thought I wanted a camel wrap coat after seeing Erin Reagan wear one on “Blue Bloods” while carrying a Prada bag and looking tres chic. But alas the wrap coats looked more like camel bathrobes on me. So I started looking at topcoats. A topcoat has a classic shape and I always like a nice, tailored look. If you have a more casual lifestyle, a camel peacoat may a good option for you.
I stuck with staples for the rest of the look. A white button-down, my favorite dark wash jeans (on sale for under $40), Cole Haan penny loafers, my Wayfares and another handbag from my favorite boutique, Mom’s closet. Mom has had this Speedy 30 for 28 years and I love the patina of the leather.
Some things to keep in mind when shopping for your coat:
Try on multiple styles and shades. Not all camels are created equal.
Since this will last in your closet for years, make sure it is a quality textile.
If possible, try some coats on while wearing a sweater. Nothing is more annoying than buying a coat and not being able to move your arms once you layer up.
End of season sales will be starting soon, so now is the time to get a great deal.
I have linked some of my favorites in the widget below, along with my outfit for today.
Have a great day!
